Listen Psalm 118:24 in Jamaican Patois
In today's short devotional, Joy shares Psalm 118:24 in authentic Jamaican Patois along with a simple word of encouragement to help you start your Friday with gratitude and faith.
Psalm 118:24 in Jamaican Patois
"Dis a di day weh di Lord mek. Mek we rejoice an be glad inna it."
English Translation
"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
— Psalm 118:24
You Made It To Friday
If yuh mek it to Friday, dat alone deserve a praise.
Many of us spend the week rushing from one responsibility to another. We deal with work, family obligations, bills, deadlines, and unexpected challenges. Before we know it, Friday arrives and we're already thinking about everything we still need to do.
But today's scripture reminds us to pause.
Psalm 118:24 tells us:
"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Those words may seem simple, but they carry a powerful message.
Every new day is a gift from God.
The fact that you woke up this morning is evidence of His mercy and faithfulness.
You have another opportunity to pray.
Another opportunity to grow.
Another opportunity to trust Him.
Another opportunity to experience His grace.
That alone is reason to rejoice.
Maybe This Week Wasn't Perfect
Let's be honest.
Not every week goes according to plan.
Maybe you faced disappointment.
Maybe something didn't work out the way you hoped.
Maybe you've been carrying stress, frustration, or uncertainty.
But before you focus on what went wrong, take a moment to recognize what God has already done.
He carried you through Monday.
He carried you through Tuesday.
He carried you through every challenge that came your way.
And today, you're still here.
That is not something to take for granted.
When Joy says:
"Maybe things never perfect dis week, but look how far God carry yuh already."
there is wisdom in those words.
Sometimes we become so focused on our problems that we forget to thank God for bringing us through them.
Rejoice In The Day God Has Given You
Psalm 118:24 does not say we should only rejoice when life is perfect.
It does not say we should only be thankful when we have everything we want.
Instead, it calls us to rejoice in the day God has given us.
That means choosing gratitude even when circumstances are difficult.
It means trusting God even when we don't have all the answers.
It means believing that His plans are greater than our worries.
Today may not be perfect.
But God is still good.
His mercy is still available.
His grace is still sufficient.
And His faithfulness has not failed.
A Friday Reminder
As you go through this Friday, take a moment to slow down.
Take a deep breath.
Thank God for another day.
Thank Him for His protection.
Thank Him for His provision.
Thank Him for His mercy.
Thank Him for carrying you this far.
And remember:
"Dis a di day weh di Lord mek. Mek we rejoice an be glad inna it."
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for bringing us safely through another week. Thank You for Your love, mercy, and faithfulness.
Help us to rejoice in the gift of today. Fill our hearts with gratitude and remind us that You are always with us, no matter what challenges we face.
Give us strength, wisdom, and peace as we continue to trust in You.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
